Drottningholm Palace is a royal palace and cultural property located in Ekerö Municipality. Commissioned by Hedvig Eleonora of Holstein-Gottorp and completed in 1699, this architectural ensemble is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Crown palaces and castles in Sweden.

Planning a visit

The palace is situated 10 km from Stockholm. Travelers arriving by air can use Stockholm-Bromma Airport, located 5 km away, or the larger Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, which is 36 km from the site. Because the region experiences cold winters with temperatures dipping to -5 °C in February, the warmer months from May through September are most suitable for a visit. During this time, temperatures reach daily highs between 15 °C and 22 °C, though visitors should be prepared for rain, as July and August see precipitation on about 12 days each month.

Since the palace is near Stockholm, it is practical to combine a visit with other major cultural sites in the area. Within approximately 10 to 11 km, travelers can also reach Stockholm Palace, Storkyrkan, Tre Kronor, Stockholm City Hall, and the Nationalmuseum. Drottningholm Palace is one of the most looked-up sights in Sweden based on English Wikipedia data.
