Ytterby is a mine, historic landmark, and working life museum located in the Vaxholm Municipality. Established in 1756, the site is one of the most looked-up sights in Sweden.

Planning a visit

The warmer months from June through August offer the most comfortable temperatures for visiting, with daily highs around 16 °C to 19 °C and lower rainfall frequencies compared to the winter months. During the winter, temperatures frequently drop below freezing, and rain or snow occurs on about 10 to 12 days each month. Visitors arriving by air can reach the site from Stockholm-Bromma Airport, which is 25 km away, or Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, located 34 km from the site. Ytterby is situated 19 km from Stockholm.

Because of its proximity to the capital, a trip to Ytterby can be combined with visits to several Stockholm landmarks. The Vasa Museum and Skansen are both located within 19 km of the site. Other nearby attractions include the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm Palace, and Tre Kronor, all situated within 20 km of Ytterby.
